This Kenwood KDC-X994 was purchased with Motorola Droid in mind. I wanted a car stereo that would allow me to stream music from my mobile phone. The KDC-X994 does that and more.
Bluetooth connects fast and will start playing within seconds if BT Audio was the last source being used. It sports a bevy of sound and display options which are each specific to the selected Source (BT, CD, Tuner, USB, etc). There is a short learning curve for using most of the features on this Head Unit. It also sounds way better than my stock stereo.
My phone book never fully syncs with the stereo. It only shows one of my contacts and a few pages of empty slots. I can dial those slots and it will call one of my contacts, but without labels you have no idea who it will call. I still haven't figured out how to hang up on a phone call. Support so far has been pretty unresponsive. I contacted them through their contact form to obtain a link to the Bluetooth Firmware update available for this unit. No direct link was provide, only a link to the same broken page that I found in the first place. If anybody knows where to get the 3.1 update for this unit, please drop the link in the comments.
While I'm happy to have a new car stereo and one that features A2DP bluetooth technology, many of the KDC-X994 menus and features seem poorly implemented. I'm not sure its worth what I paid and I probably should have done some more research before dropping $380 to have this installed (with 5yr warranty).
