It was fall of 2006 when we purchased the Casio Exilim EX-Z600. We purchased it at a Circuit City. Remember those? This was our first point-and-shoot camera and we even picked up the two year accidental protection warranty. Didn't need it.
History
The Casio EX-Z600 we purchased was black with some polished silver trim and buttons. It sports a decent flash, 3x optical zoom, and could snap 6 Megapixel images within a second or so of turning on. That was one of the things we liked about this series of camera from the start. We have likely shot ~8,000 images and roughly 1,000 videos with this camera. All of the weddings, graduations, birthdays, etc. We've had quite a history with this reliable memory preservation device.
Usage
While, there were snappier looking cameras out at the time, this model certainly held its own in usability. The only place it really was a hassle was in charging the phone. Even back in '06 many handheld electronics and cameras were beginning to charge via USB. I don't know why Casio decided to market the EX-Z600 with a proprietary charging plug and PC connector, but they did. This was the hardest thing about using this camera. It meant you had to lug around this extra little piece of plastic if you wanted to interact with the media beyond the pretty little 4" lcd screen.
Outside of the above issue, this camera was a pleasure to own and has held up well for its age. Just know that our model did not support many of the newer SD cards. That had become a bit of an issue towards the end of its use.
