Jacks Wholesale Windows sold me trapezoidal windows

Don't get me wrong, polygons are very important shapes and I appreciate them greatly.  Unfortunately, I paid to have more equally sided rectangle windows installed.

March 1, 2010 (recap)

This was the day the Jacks Wholesale Windows installers come back out to put in new windows.  The installers used a reciprocating saw and without consulting me proceeded to blow sawdust all over my living room, office desk, and dining area.  The vibrations from the saw also caused a crystal candle holder to shake of a wall shelf a few feet away.

I contact Jacks Wholesale Windows at about 9am.  I explain that my windows are crooked.  The installers mounted them ok I thought, but the windows don't close properly, the screens are too small, and the night-stop wouldn't open.

Same installers return to inspect my claim.  They measure several different faces of the windows and decide that the window with the obstructed night-stop can be adjusted so they disassemble that entire window set.  In doing so, the windows get set against my office desk a few feet away.  More hammering, wood shaving/carving, and sawing ensues.  They checked their work a few more times and felt comfortable enough to start tacking everything back in.  The night-stop would now deploy as designed, but the windows (sash) is definitely still crooked.  Its narrower at the top than it is at the bottom - off by at least 1/8th inch.

As the one installer finished up the caulk job on the first window, I show the lead installer the discrepancies with the second set.  This 2-light set was mounted in a metal frame (aluminum I believe) that is about 1/8th narrower at the top.  This means no matter what adjustments they make, it will always be tighter at the top.  Nice windows Jack, again I see the big difference you speak of.  He went on to make several more measurements and mumble about how Jack's isn't going to like this and he's not sure what to do because he didn't want to have to own these windows.  He proclaimed that he wasn't retarded and that I was right, the windows were crooked.

The lead installer proceeded to call the central Jacks Wholesale Windows office while the second installer finished up the first set of windows.  It was then that I noticed my computer, which had been off since the previous night, was turned on.  I know that it wasn't on earlier because it glows a bright green when its on and it was certainly turned off when I witnessed the windows being set down against the desk its on.  So I turn on the monitors and to my surprise the PC is stuck on a DHCP boot error screen.  I restarted the machine and that's when I heard some scratchy grinding sound come from the box.  It would appear that my HD had seized up.  I ask the installers if they accidentally bumped it the machine as it was easily in reach of the windows set near it.  They both denied turning it on of course.

That was it, several months of Photoshop files, application code, and personal data down the tube.  Not to mention the $100 HD and time involved with recovering what I could. Whats data recovery for failed drives these days, $2000? Sorry, I don't believe for 2 seconds that this was a coincidental hardware failure. While I didn't see actual contact, I have a strong suspicion that a window (sash) or a boot smacked the PC on and caused the HD to fail.

Thanks Jacks Wholesale Windows, you not only forced me to take extra days off of work because you hire incompitent installers, but you also sold me crooked windows and may have killed my computer.

Jack's Redemption

This situation is currently in the process of being repaired.  A representative of Jacks Wholesale Warehouse has visited the house and helped restore my confidence in their business.  I will post an update once this issue is completely resolved.
